I was looking at the scales on classic shaving, but was not sure how to know if htey will fit a razor or not.

I was going to try to make new scales for my doublearrow when it arrives....but the cost of those scales is the same as a sheet of wood.

Measure your blade, from pivot point to toe I would imagine, then call or email Classic Shaving and see if they can tell you. Some of those are "drill your own hole" so are more likely to make a good custom fit.

As far as the tools for making scales, it's pretty simple.
    coping saw
    hand file
    various grits of wet/dry sandpaper.
Gorilla glue- glue the two scales together to make sure they get shaped exactly the same way.
If you have a Dremel you can cut back on your filing time, but it's easier to screw up.

Finishing: Dependent on the type of scale material and finish used.

Peening: Brass pins, brass washers, ball peen hammer, solid piece of metal for use as an anvil.

I have very little experience with small bits of wood, but it wasn't that difficult. I tried using the Dremel the first time but made too many mistakes. I did learn a lot, and my second set of scales turned out fairly nicely, but for the wedge, which I need to redo.

The cutting and shaping you kinda need to pay attention to, but the sanding is something your hands can do while reading or watching TV.

I think i may go ahead and order this Straight Razor Maintenance & Repair Needs.

I like the look of tortoise shell.

The handle comes complete and fully assembled, with the end wedge, pin and collar already in place at the handle end, all you need do is drill the hole where necessary for the pivot pin and install your favorite 4/8, 5/8, or 6/8 blade.
The ideal way to convert an old beat-up razor into a showpiece.

I thought Gorilla glue as forever, how do you get them back apart?
I used double faced mounting tape.

I use Gorilla Glue to make my pseudo-one-piece handles and none has come apart yet. I find that the double-sided tape, used to stick up window insulation film, works well for the shaping stage of scale production.

    Couple of hints here guys....
Watch the Dovo replacement scales the ones I got way back when were pre-drilled and WILL NOT fit just any razor... Call Classic and make sure, there are different lengths to consider....

Two sided tape or rubber cement works great for working the scales...

Gorilla glue would be at the bottom of my list to use for scales even for a permanent seal just because of the foaming action it has....

JMHO here.... and a wee bit of experience thrown in...
