Thread: Cheap Rescaling?

+1 to no gorilla

Cheap. cheap rescale. OK- hows about laminating a couple tongue depressors. (I only suggest laminating to get a bit more strength and thickness for shaping- even if does double the cost)
minimum required 3(one to make the wedge)
finish with black gloss enamel or lacquer spray paint

rivet with a piece of copper wire- no washers or etcs.

Nothing fancy, just I am playing with the idea of buying ebay razors with good blades and having them rescaled bare bones- cheapest decent pins, cheapest decent scales...

I always say you get what you pay for. If you're looking for the cheap you'll get the cheap. Instead of buying several razors and then have them rescaled by you or someone else I would start and invest in one good razor and invest into a nice rescale with whatever material you love. Build up your collection of razors one at a time with funds you set aside for that purpose.

It doesn't matter if it's a cheaper wood, plastic... it still takes the same amount to make them.

There's no such thing as cheaper brass pins, washers, spacers either.

The idea of sending your own scale material would be an option but you'll have to send the right measurements so the person can cut out the correct sized scales and you'll be basically paying what the person charges for his labor.

You'll have to decide for yourself what your main priorities are. Have several great razors but with cheap, so so finished scaled or just a few great razors but with beautiful looking scales that have a A+ finish.

Maximailian, what all do you need to buy to rescale yourself? Ive been wanting to try rescaling some of my vintage razors but I am clueless as to what all I will need. If you or anyone else who sees thia would not mind leaving a list, that would be super helpful. Thanks.

And what is not in the Wiki is is in the workshop section. basically, any scale material you like, a saw, peening hammer, brass rod and washers (1/16" and #0) a peeing block or small anvil, sandpaper, a file, maybe a rasp, a stencil and time.

It's a bit hard getting that to fit the Wizard of Oz tune, Rob - your first line has not got enough syllables (we're off to see the wizard) and neither has the last (the wonderful wizard of Oz)! Some creative warbling would be necessary, for sure...
