Help w/ ID?
Hey guys, I got three real nice ones in today...One of them a Genco "Fluid Steel", one a FAMA from Star Works, and one is...something else.
It came in a brown box with some ind of flower shaped impressions (probably not original) and it has "World's Fair Razor" engraced on the blade, in a flowing banner script, around a stylized glode with 1893 stamped on it. NOT the typical 1893 world's fair razor engraving, as I understand it.
The maker's mark is what interests me--it's almost completely gone, but it appears to be a stag, with a hunter holding one arm around its neck...Anyone have any info about this one?
Thanks!

No idea on the maker, but it looks like a real nice find! I agree that the etching is different from others I have seen but I'm sure that a lot of different cutlers etched or engraved some blades they had on hand to capitalize on the event.

Seems there are two logos for the 1893 Worlds Fair. I am still looking for a souvenir supplier.Last edited by singlewedge; 04-14-2009 at 02:27 PM.

THat's a cool bottle opener, Phil...very cool!
Well, I'm not expecting anything, but here's a better pic of the maker's mark.

Hey Jim,
It looks like the maker's mark represents the Roman goddess Diana who is usually pictured hanging out with a stag. I couldn't find any references to a maker using that name except for a Japanese firm called Diane. Did you pick up your razor there is Japan or did you get it from the States? Anyway, it could be a clue to its maker.

To me it looks like the stag is pulling a sleigh...
