Thanked: 156I don't like these scales, looking for creative ideas.
http://i615.photobucket.com/albums/t...rs/ern2-01.jpg
Their plain and plastic and they're bothering me.
Or maybe the scale addiction disorder is setting in...
Either case... I was originally thinking faux tortoise shell. But then I got two razors with great faux tortoise and now my faux tortoise shell desire has faded. Then I started thinking paua/abalone. But that seemed a little ostentatious for this razor. And expensive. And now I'm out of ideas.

Thanked: 0How about a light, patterned wood like tiger maple? The frosted look to the etching, etc seems to call for a light colored scale.

Thanked: 16You could try some light coloured horn, but I hate to see anybody in such obvious distress, so the only other suggestion I can make is send the razor to me and I will give it a loving home

Personally, i like the pale colour, so i'd stick with something similar. Light horn, as ragnost suggested, ivory from a reclaimed set, bone, go crazy & use mammoth ivory, or if it has to be wood, i'd go with olive.

A nicely grained wood, perhaps, like snakewood?

Yeah, I'd use a nice piece of figured maple, either a tiger (flame/curly) or a piece with really fine quilting... other than that, probably a light colored natural material such as bone or horn.

Thanked: 13249Leighton look at this stuff
http://straightrazorpalace.com/galle...nd-scales.html
The spalted Tamarind is a PITA to work but it is light colored and weighted so it should work well with that blade....
I believe I have enough to do another set or two, if you want to make them yourself I will be glad to send you the blanks, or if you want me to make them drop me a pm...
PS; Requires a respirator because of the spalted wood

Thanked: 735Get some red acrylic. Soak the Solingen off with some acetone (nail polish remover), make new scales out of the red acrylic, stick the Solingen on the new scales, re-pin, and enjoy.
Or send it to me, and I'll do it.

Mammoth Ivory with the Solingen inlaid.
That would be pretty.
