    Default Crown & Sword

I just got back from a flea market and picked up this razor for 2 bucks (just something to practice honing/stropping on and then see how good it was) i'll upload pictures in a bit. it is a crown and sword with case, the case is marked TheCrown&SwordRazorWorks Wald-Solingen, Made in Germany, Trade Mark, and has the date? 1720. it has a bit of rust on it but is in very good condition. can anyone tell me more about this maker and the quality of the blade, i figured it was good at the time because its made in Solingen.

    Hmm... Nice catch!

These are VERY GOOD razors! I mean really VERY GOOD.

One of the best ones ever made in Solingen. (You can find some posts here, and around the Internet.)

It' s not in a bad shape, so I would clean it up, and use it.
But if You want to practice honing on it...

Well, it's Your choice at all.

oh and btw what does the 1720 mean is that when the blade was made?

If Crown and Sword means ERN, the company started manufacturing about 1873.

It's good steel. One of the really good razors you can still get a good deal on eBay.

Unless Leighton and I are in the bidding.

There's one of these on UK ebay, described as an ultra rare "short blade" razor. It's certainly short, as someone has seen fit to bench grind the blade from the heel to near centre and a fair chunk off the toe for good measure. A real bargain at $130 buy it now!

    Taken from Taylors1000's website:

    ERN
    C. Friedr.ERN
    Wald & Solingen1873
    Knives, Pocket knives & Razors
Crown & Sword. ERN. Snake & Eagle. Primus.

    r-Ban Gong Razor, ATOR, NOHON.
Crown and Sword is a brand made by ERN.

I have a crown and sword. Is one Great Shaver.. Hate to hear of one going dead to practice honing.

Mine is marked one top side "Crown & Sword / Razor Works / Wald Germany" Bottom Side " ERN / Germany / 4720"

    Same Scales as yours ..
