    Default Engelswerk?

So literally translated, Engelswerk means Angel works. However, it could be Engels' work. Does anyone know if Engelswerk is related to FW Engels? And does anyone know how good these razors are?

I don't know about Engelswerk but FWE made some outstanding razors. The old barbers I used to talk with 25 years ago rated them with Dubl Ducks. IME that is an accurate assessment.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It doesn't have the Hansel and Gretel stamp though, rather an angel flying while holding a script S

It has an etching saying Pilatus Stahl which obviously means some kind of steel, and on the back it is etched with the name "Christian Meyer". I dunno if that was original or a customization.

Guess that is a rare piece.
I've not heard of Pilatus Stahl (which doesn't mean much of course)
    Nice!
How is the blade? A lot left or stropped away?

Looks pretty good, its $80 though... I dunno about that price point...
    Doing some searching, this advertisement:
    Frankfurt/M.: Reklamemarke Pilatus-Stahl bei eBay.de: Reklamemarken (endet 04.06.09 10:31:12 MESZ)
    places it as around 1900-1918.

The little part on the left reads "Pilatus Stahl: Messer u. Scheren etc. nur echt mit dieser Engels-Marke"
Which if my broken picked up German serves me well means Pilatus(?) Steel: Knives and Sheers/scissors etc, only authentic with the Angel Branding. Its strange that they use etc., the German I know uses usw. (und so weiter) instead of etc. but maybe its a regional thing? It seems to be authentic. I'm guessing that this is Angel-works, not an FW Engels. Any thoughts?

    Wenke: Mein Solingen / Engelswerk

This confirms Engelswerk is an Engels company. It's CW Engels. How does CW Engels compare to FW Engels?

And please, people who speak much better German than me, can you confirm that this page provides info that Engelswerk was a Steel Factory thing in Solingen, and that they did make razors?

    Confirmed!
Its probably son or father, but the factory is the same and yes in Solingen. Quite big actually, although on the old stitches it looks always a bit bigger.

The old "et cetera" sounds cool.... "u.s.w." would be too loosely, but you find "Schneidwaren aller Art" a lot, which means the same.

I've been looking around and I can find no connection between CW and FW Engels. One post on a German forum says they are completely unrelated, but doesn't provide evidence. Does anyone know anything about this topic? Also, how good are CW Engels's as shavers?
