Thanked: 2Hamburg Ring
I've read a couple posts here and seen a few pictures of razors with the words Hamburg Ring on them. I just purchased one but this is different from all of the ones I've seen. I will be pulling up those pics and links again to see who "might" be the manufacturer.
The words Hamburg Ring are surrounded by some decorative etching. The words are also etched in. It has the number 16 on the tine and there is also the faint (ghost like) presence of letters. It's a bit dirty but the ghost letters I can read are "THE 0 C" or maybe "THE 0 G". It looks to be about a 7/16 or 3/4.
I'll send some pics when the wife gets home; she took the camera.
Anyone have an idea of the manufacturer or if it is authentic?

Thanked: 2Here is the same pattern mine has on it. Mine does not have the gold though.
I pulled this off ebay, from a link from within SRP, when I searched for Hamburg Ring.

Thanked: 402There are new ones on eBay currently and they go for 70.00 Euro.
The seller has a frightening reputation for selling a brand thats called Wittex.
These are terrible. You cannot even sharpen them.
Buddel also has one in the gallery here and when he works on a razor its certainly worth it. Maybe he can chime in.
Whether yours is a good one or a bad one is not easy to say from that detail picture. Better take another from the razor you actually own.

Thanked: 2Well, restoration has begun. I unpinned the old handle. It was held together with some wood screws. The rails were dirty and seem to be wood. The wood is a pink/peach color. Not sure what kind of wood that is. One of the pin holes had damage and was drilled out for the screw so I'll have to save the rails to create some new ones of same shape and size.
I scrubbed the gunk off of the tang with my dremel tool to see if there were any hidden marks. None found. I left the area of the tang alone where it says "THE O. C."
I removed some rust on the blade and tang :-(.... There is a lot of pitting. .....
In the end it may not be the best collector. I just hope it will shave my face well.
I'll post pics later.
