Dovo "Special" Imitation Tortoise
Anybody have any experience with this razor? What do you think about it?
I am thinking about getting it, but wanted some feedback. I could just assume it is Dovo and therefore an excellent shaver, but wondered what you all thought.
Do you think it matters whether I go with a 5/8 or 6/8 (besides any difference in price)? Is one better than another?

The 6/8 version of this razor is the first one I ever purchased over a year ago.
I bought it for its looks. It stayed because of its shaves.
The size is a personal preference. I just happen to like 6/8 and 7/8 razors, but I have many 5/8 razors that give killer shaves. I can let more lather accumulate on a larger blade before I rinse it off.
Here is the archived review of this razor. I'm sure you'll find the info there helpful.

I have had the 6/8 for about 2 yrs now, it is defnitely one of my favorite shavers. Of all the new produced Dovo's and I have several this one gives some of the best shaves and was relatively easy for me to hone. Or maybe to put it better it is one of a few razors I would replace without hesitation if something happened to it.

Thanked: 335I agree with the other comments. My 6/8 is a fine shaving, attractive razor which will never leave the rotation.

I'd like to drop in and say that it's (as far as I know) preference. I have a 4/8ish Baurmann and a 13/16ish Fontenille. I don't like the 4/8s for shaving... feels wierd, but it's great for trimming. The Fontenille... I dunno if I like her. The size feels clumsy almost. I'm getting her properly honed just to be fair, and I'll give her a few more shaves, but 6/8 to me seems clumsy. (This is not because the razor is bad... because my technique is adapted to a smaller blade) I just received a DD that needs honing, but it's a hair over 5/8s and looks to be the perfect size for me. So I think... *think*... there *may* be a difference in flexibility-the wider blade being more flexible- but... I *think* its mostly preference. I believe the steel is the same. I have never used either one, or a Dovo, and I'm not nearly as experienced as some, but I'll stake the farm that it's mostly personal preference.

I've got a 6/8 one. It's the best of my three top shelf, new razors. It shaves great. It hones up easily. It feels just right in the hand when you strop. I think I would like the 5/8 size just as well.

Thanked: 127I have the 5/8 version and it is a wonderful razor. It holds an edge quite well, has a nice balance to it, and hones very easily. I use it in my daily rotation and wouldn't think of parting with it.

Thanked: 8The 5/8 was the first razor I bought, and I will add to the glowing endorsements. Not as nice as my new Filarmonica by a long shot, but given the price difference it's a great shaver.

Wow I was also thinking about one as well but decide to back off for a while because I'd read in here that someone didn't think much of it. I guess there are many more positive impressions about that razor than I'd read! Thanks gents - I don't mean to take the thread but I had to say this was a surprise - and I will get my self promptly to SRD to see if they have one - it's great to get a really well honed blade in addition to just shelling out those bucks for a new one. OK - resume the thread... :-)
