Not meaning to sound like someone unable to make up their mind - but I was just on SRD to see about the Dovo we're talking about in this thread - and saw the Bergisher Loew - and the drooling began. Wow! A nice looker and has those rubber-like grips instead of jimps much like a Filly. What a nice looker! OK, plan B... Lynn you might as well get one honed up... :-)

I think that should be the 5th circumstance in the quote from the Treatise in your signature.

The BL is a great razor (so is the tortoise special!). Congrats.

I am thinking about getting it, but wanted some feedback. I could just assume it is Dovo and therefore an excellent shaver, but wondered what you all thought.

Do you think it matters whether I go with a 5/8 or 6/8 (besides any difference in price)? Is one better than another?
They are good, well made razors - just not real fancy.

Razorburne to echo what many have stated here, the width of the blade is your personal preference. You might approach this decision based upon what width blade you find most useful at this point. I find 5/8 to be about perfect and 6/8 (while really just fine) to be a tad large feeling. That may be simply a result of most of my current crop of razors being 5/8 though. In your case it appears that you've been using the 2 ends of the spectrum in size. You can go larger somewhat but not really much smaller. Based upon what you'd written above, it would seem that the 6/8 would come in as the better width for you.

My advice would be to borrow both sizes from someone and get a pair of shaves from each. The point being to test each to find which you prefer. Another approach seems to result in your guessing as to what size works best for you. In any event good razor you're thinking about and from what I see here it's a great shaver!

    Default Dovo Tortoise Special

Yep, I have it. Shaves well and is forgiving and it sharpens easily. It gets some laps on my pasted strop every three shaves along with regular canvas/leather stropping to keep a sharp edge the way I like it. Mine is a 5/8.

Overall, it is likely one of the best buys in the "New" category. The real Tortoise needs his/her shell more than we do.
