Wapi or not?
Hello and welcome,
Just found it on an auction site, the price was ridiculously low, so I just bought it after 15 seconds of wondering if I should ask seller if it's Wapi, or see it gone...
Now, dudes, tell me it's Wapi that I bought for $12 ...
If not, well, it was worth a risk for this price, wasn't it?
BTW, looking for someone in Poland, or nearby, that would hone a razor (or two if it is a Wapi ) Anybody?Last edited by matisso; 06-16-2009 at 04:24 PM.

Is there any manufacturer stamp on the other side?
If there is something like SFK in a triangle, it is a Wapi for sure.
If not, it's still a good chance for it, that it's a Wapi, or maybe a German Aesculap (that is a microtom knife, with an assymetric blade - I mean the cross-section is assymetric).
It looks like a NOS.
Have You tried to strop it? - I bought a NOS Wapi, stropped it on a CrO paste strop, then on leather, and it shaves well.

I can't provide any more pics, nor tell if it has some stamps, because I haven't received it yet, the photo is from the auction.
This "German Aesculap" gave me a thought though, it was sold as "surgical" razor... I've also seen some other "surgical Wapis" offers (ended already), has anyone ever seen such thing and knows if they have asymmetric blade?

This is somewhat ironic to see someone from the other side of the world posting a pic with stuff made in your own country
Anyway, Navaja - the papers on your photo say these are surgical, too. Can you tell if they are symmetrical, or not?
In general, were Wapis produced in two kinds, symmetric and asymmetric?
I know I can just wait for it to arrive, but it may be some useful knowledge, nevertheless.

The original wapis were used to shave folks for surgery. In this way they were medical razors. You most likely have a wapi. The Triangle SFK stamp is more prized by some as a shaver, but they all make fairly good blades as far as I can tell. Most have some hurdles to overcome when honing.

That's a Wapi 5/8 oblique heavy grind - count on it.

Well, I didn't saw an assymetric blade in real, just red about it somewhere, that's why i wrote, it can be. What i know, that back in the "other" era (from WW2 'till 1989 - in communism) wapis were the official razors in the Hungarian Army used by barbers.
If You look around on german ebay, You can still find some new Wittex blades, (made in Germany) all stainless, for surgical use.

The tang, blade, and scales all look Wapi to me.
