It's on my desk in front of me as I write this reply!!
I guess we should call the blade marking an "etching" like everyone else is.. In looking at it, it does look like etching - not engraving.
The box is wrinkled/crushed but it has both ends. By looking close you can read most of the text.

So very cool. Congratulations on a special razor from a special friend. Sharpen 'er up and tell us how the test drive goes.

First off, Semper Fi. I didn't think there would be so many fellow Marines on this site. Pretty cool. I think I'm like the rest of you guys, now that I know these exist it's going to be my goal to have at least one.

    Default Slick

Yes, I am a former Marine - which made my conversations with the "Old Corps" even more interesting... We were 2+ generations apart. He could have easily been the guest for cake, at the Birthday Ball. A quiet, unassuming man who, like many of us - went places and did things we had never dreamed of.
My hands aren't steady enough to trust this thing at my own throat!!
So, I'll just look at it and marvel at those who could use one ... in a jungle or fighting hole. Certainly not the place I'd want to use a straight razor.

I'll remember this site and if I ever stumble on another USMC Clauss - you'll here from me.

    Semper Fi, gentlemen.

    Default Clauss USMC Razor

I picked up a Clauss USMC (on blade) 2 years ago at an Antique Store in Massachusetts when I was visiting my Dad. The minute I saw it I new I had to have it.. Mine is in mint condition and the box is in excellent condition, I would like to get more info on it age, value and if it is common or rare Thanks for any help.

Which one is it, the one with the USMC on the blade or on the shank?

If it has the USMC on the shank then they're fairly common in excellent+ condition. If it's the older style with the USMC on the blade then they're pretty uncommon in that condition. Or at least that used to be the case, I haven't paid much attention to ebay the last few years. I had four Clauss USMCs at one point, two of each model, and saw them pop up every few week. I've since sold mine to various marines so I don't have any at the moment. Fine razors though, like all Claussen, and stout suckers to boot - I always figured the marines had specced them for optional combat use, just in case it came to that.

I think that's about what I was paying for mine back then. Clauss wasn't terribly well-known and the Army-Navy Genco's were getting the military-buff's love. No idea what the USMC's are going for nowadays, probably at least $50 given the razor inflation rate.

Ohhh, it's above fifty. Those that I've watched have gone for 70 or more.
