I agree with Glen, you never know for sure. I do know that I have a very old gold watch that has never been polished and it still shines. But then again, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to old straights.
True... you never know what's out there, but it's more likely that the inlay simply states 18K and I believe refers to the remnants of the gold wash on the tang. But the material for the bolsters and the inlay is brass (looks very much like gold when polished).
