Thanked: 0W&B Chopper
Hi folks,
Can someone indicate the blade type on the W&B "For Barbers Use"? Hollow ground? wedge? This thing shaves better, and feels so different while stropping than any other razor I have. I was wondering if it was due to the massive size or possibly the shape of the blade itself. Thanks

Are ou referring to the ones with "For Barber's Use" on the tang? If so, some are wedges, some have been reground to (various levels of) hollow. I'm not sure about the ones that have the etching on the blade, because I've never seen one in person (and mine isn't here yet...), but I'd guess those are anoud half hollow or so.
I'm not sure why, but I find Sheffield blades to be very smooth and very forgiving. With larger and thicker blades, I find they become even smoother and more forgiving.

Thanked: 0Full ACK. When I used a Wedge (I think it was a Wostenholm 6/8"ish) for the very first time, I was amazed how smooth the shave was compared to what I expected from such a rather crude looking tool. When I first developed an interest in straights a highly regarded honemeister almost shocked me by telling me that he thought hollow grinding was way overrated, which I partly understood after the Wostenholm experience and after using other wedges.
