The Chinese were making razors like this into the late 1800's from what I hve read.

Yeah a lot of the time I see Kriegars up for sale as "authentic" civil war razor- look good at gettysburg this year as the only re-enactor shaving with a real straight! (Its usually kriegar as they have the most "vintage looking" blades)
