I've never had one but if I'm not mistaken those predate the civil war by a substantial margin. Your W&B for barber's use meat choppers are in the civil war period. Perhaps earlier AFAIK.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I seem to recall a conversation about these recently, and if I recall correctly, the general consensus was that they were almost all useless forgeries that bear little resemblance to reality, and were completely useless for shaving.

I have seen quite a few listed as antique Chinese razors on ebay. I share the opinion that they are junk.

There's a razor I think it's a Johnson or something which was made from 1818-1850 and looks like any other razor.Seeing that the civil war was around the 1860s,they look like fakes.

The seller probably feels they have fooled enough Chinese historian wannabees (perhaps the supply of marks was dwindling) and decided to try out the more ignorant civil war buffs

Yeah a lot of the time I see Kriegars up for sale as "authentic" civil war razor- look good at gettysburg this year as the only re-enactor shaving with a real straight! (Its usually kriegar as they have the most "vintage looking" blades)
    Okay. Just checking.
