Thanked: 9DOVO Renaissance losing 'goldetching'!
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I bought a brand new, sealed in the box, Dovo Renaissance.
I'm very satisfied with the beauty and shaving quality of this razor, except... it lost all it's gold on the 'Renaissance' etching on the blade!
Is this a 'common' problem with the Renaissance razors?
I know, sending it back to Dovo will ask some 10 months patience to see it back...

Thanked: 3795Maas polish will take gold leaf right off. Rubbing the blade with a towel will also eventually remove it.
On the bright side, once it's gone you no longer have to worry about it.

Thanked: 13249Another of "Murphy's Law's of Razordom" gold etch will only stay on, if you are specifically trying to remove it

check with the vendor before you ship it off to Dovo. They may be able to do something for you.

Thanked: 488Gold is a beautiful addition to any razor but it is fragile and it will eventually wear off no matter what you do. You can put clear scotch tape over the gold when you wipe it down or use MAAS and that will preserve it for awhile.

Thanked: 488Good deal glad to help. I came up with that because one I have to much time on my hands and two I hate losing that gold!

Well, the gold should last longer than that unless your continually rubbing it down with abrasives or paste cleaners. I would think if you put adhesive tape on, the longer the tape stays on the more likely the gold will come off when you pull the tape off.
That gold is just fragile. Personally I hate it for a working razor. Maybe a display piece or special use razor its OK but I try and avoid the gold.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Just a shot in the dark but Renaissance Wax is a museum quality preservative and protectant for metals, wood and other stuff. Robert Williams told me that he uses it on blades and Bill Ellis recommends it on custom scales made of wood.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 488The tape I use is the scotch semi transparent stuff that doesn't hold that tight and is easy to peel off. The clear stuff would work but it's thinner and not as easy to remove and it does stick more than the thicker semi transparent type. Jimmy I've heard very good things about the wax you mentioned also.
FP one thing I don't leave the tape on all the time just when cleaning then remove it before it gets a really good hold. I wouldn't leave it on more than 15 minutes or so.Last edited by Gunner777; 07-11-2009 at 09:22 PM.
