As if I hadn't already beaten it to death, here is another thought...

Consider the stupid logic of their claim that the "titanium blue color is UN-REMOVABLE even after sharpening the razor on strop or stone." Sharpening on a stone is accomplished by the removal of steel from the edge. If the coating, and keep in mind it is only a coating, could not be removed, then the edge could not be sharpened.

This rookie is not buying their story.

There are a few razors out there that fall into the "Yes they can shave, but at the price point I would rather have a Dovo, TI, or Vintage razor" catagory...

BTW Utopian is dead on about the coating it does not stay on the edge, and the advertising is at best misleading and at worst a lie...

Not only that, but they burned out the motor on their Jaws of Life micro-attachment trying to cut the ring.

I'm betting a titanium razor would be nearly impossible to hone. No manufacturer is trusted now to hone steel blades; I highly doubt they could do justice to titanium. Also, it's fairly expensive.
Aluminum would be too soft, I think.

This does not make sense. Titanium is too soft for good blades, it is strong for its weight but not at all dense so per volume it is weaker than steel by a good margin. And in absolute terms steel can be stronger.

Maybe it was a carbide ring or some such, there are all kinds of exotic metals made as rings, but titanium is very similar to aluminum in density and physical properties. So would you shave with an aluminum razor?

You could use such coatings to make it rust resistant in areas other than the edge and make the razor a different color, but you would hone through them and they wouldn't effect the edge.

Is this any different than calling pattern welded steel, "Damascus" steel.

Yes, because they are very specifically declaring that the titanium coating makes the blade sharper, when it clearly cannot because it does not exist at the edge.

Then it is the worst, because their own photos prove that they are lying. The blue titanium coating does not exist at the edge.

I guess we're all still rookies like the guy said.

Nice answer Ron, but I am still trying to figure out what the Damascus question had to do with the thread ??????
