Filarmonicas for "hair cutting"
Just recently I was in Barcelona and was thrilled when I found a NOS Filarmonica selling for less than 50€. When I asked in the shop to have a look at it I noticed it said "special for hair cutting". And I have seen again recently another NOS Filly with the same in the brochure, it looks like a 4/8 or similar, and although pics are not very good looks like a wedge (or almost).
Have any of you any experience with this "special for hair cutting" Filarmonicas?
Thanks and regards

Especially fancy hair dressers use a blade instead of scissors. Obviously Filarmonica supplied them purpose-made.
I never saw a wedge Filly so yu may have a rare specimen!
If the steel is as good as the steel Filarmonica used for razors I bet it will be a good shaver as welll. The wedge shape will add some weight to the 4/8 blade which is an additional advantage.
Enjoy it and keep us posted.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Thanks Kees, I do not have it, but saw it advertised, but to be honest did not know if there is a "real" difference between a shaving razor and a razor "designed" for hair cutting, as implied for the fact that they were advertised for this market specifically. Is it may be just a matter of size, or may be they have a different cutting angle?
And my assumption that this is a wedge just got it looking at the picture, but I can of course be corrected by all the members here with a lot more experience than I have!

the lady that cuts my hair using a straight, of course she uses the disposable blade type, but does it to make the hair lay smoother. she then will go over with scissors to get it shorter if needed. (sides and back). maybe imagination but I do think it looks like it lays more smoothly. she says that there are hairdressers that claim they can get the same cut with scissors, but she's not seen one do it yet. it's because the scissors of course cut the edges of the hair blunt, but the razor gives a tapered end to the hair.

Thanks for your input Big Red, as a matter of fact my hair dresser also uses a disposable razor for touch ups, as it is forbidden to use anymore a non-disposable. Here is a pic of the brochure, which also have an English version:

Just saw one on *bay ("Filarmonica Doble Temple Haircut"), Spanish seller but not related with him/her (so my mother says...), in case you want to see more pics (do not know if I can post a direct link)

Thanked: 132My great grandfather used to cut my hair, with his straight razor...its what led me to straights as an adult.
I think it would be cool to experience that again.

Thanked: 4942I remember barbers in the 60's using disposable blades for razor cutting hair. Don't remember if I ever had a razor cut with a real straight. I do remember barbers using 3/8 and 4/8 blades for trimming up the neck. Neat razor in any case.
