I would agree on later "Silver Steels" which were alloyed with Chromium, but in the 1820s Michael Faraday formulated a Silver Steel that had about .02% Silver alloyed in it. It was the rage when it came out. I would argue that it was in many razors from that period. Even today, Dovo advertizes their Silver Steel as actually having silver in it not the later alloy called "Silver Steel" that was used for tools that did not.

First of all what is IIRC and what is AFAIK - Arabic for "this razor sux"?
Original silver steel DID have a minute bit of silver in it as a marketing gimic. It did nothing at all for the shavability of the razor. Over a period of time the silver was dropped but the name "silver steel" stuck to a grade of excellent tool steel. there is NO silver in modern "silver steel".

Silver steel is common tool steel in the UK that is supplied as a centerless ground round bar. It is roughly equivalent to drill rod in the US.
The steel is defined under specification BS-1407, with the closest European equivalent being 1.2210 (although this steel contains vanadium). The composition is as follows: carbon 0.95–1.25, manganese 0.25–0.45, chromium 0.35–0.45, silicon 0.40 max, phosphorus 0.045 max, sulfur 0.045 max.[1]
In the annealed state is has a hardness of 27 RHC. It can be hardened to 64 RHC.[2]

Hi John,
I thought I read it some time ago but don't know where. I just sent an email to [email protected] and flat out asked them. We will see if they get back to us.
