My Griffon Carbo Magnetic is certainly magnetic. I believe I've read this was an advertising ploy.

Surely it was a marketing thing? Some of these blades are so magnetic. Wasn't it just that Magnetism was the then thing and so… Seriously, correct me. I've come across blades that are so magnetic that I cannot believe they were not manufactured as such. (In all honesty, I'm not sure it matters).

It's to make sure that your teenage son that doesn't want to listen to anybody will listen to the razor when it buries its edge into his cheek, being attracted by his braces.

I highly doubt the magnetization was done by the factory. There is simply no reason to do it. In addition, the blades marked magnetized are not magnetic.

My theory, and I'm sticking to it, is that it comes from either the resto jig or someone used a magnet on the razor, perhaps like a kitchen knife magnetic holder, on the razor.

This is how I demagnetize my razors after sticking them on the Ellis Jig. Which always magnetizes mine btw. Probably something to do with the orientation of the three magnets.

I don't recall which razor I own that actually says "magnetized" on the tang, but it's never seen a magnet by my hand and it is magnetized. I agree it must have been a marketing gimmick; if it truly improved things then I would think as a matter of course virtually all vintage razors would have been magnetized.

I've been using the Bill Ellis work jig since they first came out and it has never ever magnatized any razor I've had on it. The magnets used in this jig are rare earth magnets and yes they are powerful but this particular razor has never been on the jig. There was no need for restoration just honing so I'm guessing along with most others that it was some kind of marketing ploy.
I did a little googleing and found that at the turn of the 20th century and a while before after there were all kinds of products advertised as being able to improve your health through maganatism. Of course this was the same time frame that Heroin was available at your local pharmacy to improve health and provide energy--- yea right!

You have to remember there were so many razors being manufactured and sold in the day so manufacturers wanted their razor to seem special and that's why you see terms like carbo-magnetic and tungsten and damascus, electric and all kinds of stuff. Whether its true or not it doesn't matter. In those days it was buyer beware with no consumer protection laws. So if a razor was magnetic I guess that seemed like a cool thing to some average joe with a 10th grade education or less.

Here is the theory I heard someplace... No Facts here Folks!!!!

The magnetic razor attracted the "Iron" in the blood causing more blood to flow which caused the skin to tighten and to make the beard hair stand taller to be lopped off by the superior magnetic razor.....
Thus resulting in a closer shave....

Don't believe me, let me tell you about a buzzing 5 bladed wonder that gives you a closer shave right now !!!!!
