Thread: Why are some straights heavily Magnatized?

I think its a gimmick, but the principle makes sense so it would grab people. Since iron particles have polarity, and when these polarities align it generates magnetic fields, when they don't their fields cancel out. So I'm guessing the thought was if you're magnetising it your aligning them and then that may or may not help when it comes to honing/keeping an edge. Doubt it works though.

Well, it seems that it was indeed an early gimmick, almost exactly like the modern magnetic razor sharpener that Gunner referenced earlier. "No honing, no grinding" I'm not sure if there is no honing b/c of the magnetization of the blade, or if the blade is magnetized as a result of being tempered by an "exclusive secret process of electricity".

These guys really liked radiation too, its a near thing we don't have to get out the geiger counters every time we get a lot off ebay...

There was a carbomagnetic strop! Now we know why lol.... when used together their powers combine to form... Captain Planet! He's a hero...

This is a "Challenge Razor Works, Magnetized Steel" blade i've got.
Photo's aren't great, as i couldn't get it to focus, poor light etc.
I've started to polish it up a bit, but it's never been near a magnet while in my possession. It's holding a needle.

It's funny stuff that's for sure. I love those old BS ads. Your right they loved radiation to. Anybody remember the shoe store device that was an early XRay machine that showed your toes inside the shoes so you could make sure they fit!!! People got radiation sickness and the government pulled the machines out of store---LOL. I guess it's not funny but geez!

Lol... my one french razor says radium... uh oh... I don't think its radium though, just a gimmick.

I sold a Radiumite Chicago.IL. It had a few lightning bolts on each side of the logo on the blade. It was fairly magnetic also.

will it do that with the spine? If not, I suspect that they strongly aligned the magnetic field throughout the razor, thereby aligning the iron particle, and thereby trying to make the edge align itself I bet. Like the old iron filing thing.
Whether it works or not is suspect. But I think thats what they were going for.
