    Bassguy,

Indeed those are wise words about the great Ray Brown.

Also, never forget that jazz is the only true American art form. Ah, but then this a shaving forum; otherwise I'll wax poetry about jazz and classical music till my razor goes dull.

I'll drop you a note on your site. Stay well.

    Regards,

I believe it was Montaigne who said that 'Obsession is the cause of genius and insanity.'

I pick "razor genius" myself. YMMV...

    Gentlemen,

"Razor genius" — yes, I like that. And I love Montaigne. I wonder what instrument he used for shaving.

A friend said to me, "You straight razor guys are crazy."
"Only poor people are crazy," I said. "We are eccentric."

    Regards,

    Obie

I met an older jazz musician recently and told him about my straight shaving. He was pretty disappointed for some reason, and thought it was stupid, why would anyone do something like that to themselves... etc.
I'm fine with being crazy or genius. He shaves with a Lady Shick
I think he finally understood me when I explained it had to do with learning to sharpen knives and hone razors myself. It's a learned skill, not a device for self-torture.

    Gentlemen,

Yes, the straight razor is a work of art. Not only does it require skill that takes a long time to master, but it also nourishes the creative impulses.

At the risk of sounding corny, for me, shaving with a straight razor is a continued journey of learning flowered with bouquets of pleasure.

The people who use the plastic guillotines and the vile foamy substance spewing from an aerosol can probably will not understand my sentiment. I know you do, gentlemen.

Shaving with a straight razor, though archaic and ridiculous to those with the fast foods mentality, is an experience worth the effort and the price.

    Regards,

    Obie
