Default My first Chandler and custom razor

Well, I have been saving for a while. Got a promotion, sold my house and got a new place in Philly. In fact today is the closing on my home. It has been a busy year and darn it, I deserve something for all the work. So I visited straightrazordesings.com and ordered my first hand made razor. I have several Herlbert Wacker razors and they are all super nice but they are still a limited commercial production razor. Not a hand forged one off blade.

So she arrived today. A big old hunk of mirror polished 8/8 Spanish point worked back wedge of steel. The tang is long, lot like those big 8/8 Henckels but the monkey tail is big enough for 2 fingers. Man is this thing awesome. I took a photo of it beside a big 7/8 Whacker Jungmeister for scale.

Now I need to go change my shorts and shave.

I've seen that razor in person and it is even nicer than the pics indicate. Congrats on a great year and a great razor!

Beautiful razor. I got really lucky and won a Joe Chandler very like it when SRD generously held a drawing last year and my name got pulled out of the bag. One of the finest shavers I've yet encountered.

Best of luck in your new home.

Pretty much one of the coolest razors I've seen. The lines, the fit and finish, the file work; it must be a joy to hold and to shave with! Congrats. Some of the best looking razors IMO have been Joe Chandler razors.

Did he forge that blade or did he employ the stock removal method?

I believe it was a forge. Don/Lyn or Joe could answer for sure. Already gave it a shave. I think it tops 8/8. I have several 8/8 and this one feels more like 9/8 but it could be the overall proportion of the razor. The long tang and tail make it very easy to hold and work.

I tell ya. I am very tempted to sell of a bunch of other razors and get a damasks Livi and another Chandler. words just dont do the razor justice. If you can manage one, get it. It is worth every penny. It is about quality, not quantaty. I would rather have one good compatition clays shotgun then 5 of lesser quality. Razors sing the same song.

Used some SRD sandlewood soap, very good soap if you have not used it yet. Best sandlewood I have used. a 26mm Stepehns silvertip and the new chopper. What a shave. Been saving the whiskers for two days in anticipation of this one.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

And grats on that monster you got there. Glad it's working out for you.

LOL - that is too funny - I did the same thing when I got my wacker. You will get many years or lifetimes with that one. Tell me, was it harder to shave the face with a huge a$$ grin when you used it for the first time ?
