    Default Dovo Blades

Could one of you learned scholars tell me if Dovo uses the same blades for razors across their line?
Understood that they offer carbon and stainless. I guess my question is, is there a difference between their lower end stainless blades and their top of the line Mother of Pearl razor?
And the same question for their carbon steel models.
Perhaps they make all their blades with the same process and them grade the finished blades?
Thanks for any light that could be shed on this.

That's a great question. I was always under the impression the steel was basically the same composition, maybe more of it and different gold etching, and scales, but I could be mistaken. I mean some of their blades go for 500 dollars. Don or Lynn or one of the vendors or fabricators may know. I'm kinda curious myself. I love Dovo. Great shavers....

Reading the descriptions of the various Dovo razors at Classic Shaving I always got the impression they use different steels. Some are called high carbon steel, others Swedish steel.

Lynn may know as he hones classicshaving's razors.

Well Swedish steel is very broad notion, there is Carbon Swedish, there is also Swedish Inox (or other stainless).
In my opinion, its the same carbon steel with different level of bling (gold wash /scales).
I do not think its economically sound to use multiple kinds of steels, mainly due to different temper properties, anyway.
The websites can come up with descriptions that sound different to give the feeling of uniqueness, just a marketing trick.

I hope someone that is more into the things will enlighten us as to where the truth is.

I have 4 or 5 different dovo blades, and they feel similar, in regards to carbon steel. I only have one stainless which does feel different and is slightly harder to hone (in my hands) anyway. All are good shaves though.

    My two cents.....
I have a standard carbon steel Dovo and a Fritz Bracht Swedish Steel Dovo. The Swedish Steel is a bit shinier, harder and holds the edge for longer. Definitely feels diferent on the skin. I believe it is not stainless steel though. My opinion of course. If I was going to buy a Dovo I would try to get Swedish Steel. A notch above.

I was in contact with Dovo last year, and was informed by them that all of their 5/8 stainless razors are the exact same razor. The MOP, the pearlex, any of the #41 blades, the micarta stainless, are all the very same razor.

You are paying for the difference in scales.

I presume, at my own peril, that they are pretty much the same blade for all, except maybe their top priced ones, and the difference in cost is the material used for the scales.

The exception is the Bergischer Lowe which is specifically made from swedish steel while the majority of the DOVO line appears to be from german steel. All are greeat shavers though the BL is in a class by itself among the DOVOs.
