After the original maker was payed for his work, such pieces should really only be passed on as presents from fathers to sons, sons to fathers, mentors go pupils or pupils to mentors, and other strong bonds that celebrate the art of being human. Anything else is a disgrace, in my humble opinion.

That is an extremely compelling point...

Your iwasaki is going to be my next and final razor purchase. Beautiful, and very reasonably priced!

Were I you, I'd be inclined to go for it, Jim. She'll get over it like my wife did when I bought my '64 Buick Wildcat. Believe me, it cost a lot more than that lovely razor.
I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

Oh Jim. of course you are right. You don't need anyone telling you what you want or like or need to have.

I was just trying to sound logical and smart. No easy task, and certainly out of place for me as steel and stone constitute a substantial portion of my lifestyle.

I was unaware of Iwasaki -Kousuke's singular effort. I have read some about the lost generation after wwII, which I assume is the time period you are referring to. Interesting>

Kevin, I'm sorry I replied so strongly. I have recently become somewhat passionate about certain elements of Japanese history and culture, and one of them is the Iwasaki family--I think in large part because of my barber's influence, and the fact that my wife's uncle has been telling me stories of his father shaving with an Iwasaki as preparation for ceremonies (he was a Buddhist priest, as all of my wife's uncles are, as well)...it's becoming perhaps too personal for me.
