Gentlemen, here is a clear example of why it is important to have not only a joint account with your wife for life's necessities, but also two other accounts, one for her, and one for you, that are used exclusively for discretionary spending.

I have such an account with a varying balance between $0 and almost never over $1,000. That money is mine to do with as I please without budgetary oversight from my Boss.

Of course, I have to come up with the money for that acount on my own, I don't get to dip into the family account. But when I do have money in there, I get to spend it on silly stuff like expensive razors and such!

The SRP Museum would like to extend to the forum a donation request. TSRPM desperately needs a western-style tamahagane steel in its Japan-America collection. Your help is greatly appreciated. Once the funds are ready, TSRPM staff will discuss appropriation and feasibility of the purchase and then act accordingly.

    Thank you

    - TSRPM Staff

PS Thanks for the idea, Craig!
Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Oh, I already have one, but I rarely have more than $300. $1000 is a bit beyond the pale.

And, truth be told, if she came home with $1000 ANYTHING that I wasn't informed of, the ol' feces would hit the proverbial fan. So I shall not be hypocritical in this.

At least you're fair about it JimR

I'm sure she would appreciate it! I would probably buy the darn thing, and try to cover it up

I was wondering what goes through the mind while resurrecting lost nippo-centric steel making techniques to produce western-style goods?

Did it give them a chuckle: "There we have just made the largest improvement to straight razors in 200 years" (by making it from JP steel )

Was it economics? The only way to keep going is having some money coming in.

Why make a western razor when the rediscovery is supposed to be Japanese?

Man...I had this long post written about the intertwined history of Japan and Germany, and the weird duality of feeling that Japan has about Europe, and all this great stuff about steel (trust me, it was GREAT), but I apparently closed my browser without posting it and now I'm just too tired to write it all out again.

Suffice to say: Probably all of the above, and then some.

People are finally bidding on it, I wonder how much it will go for in the end.

    EDIT: 156,500 Yen

    More exciting than the superbowl.

The timer extends if you bid under 5 minutes...
