Thanked: 31Thiers Issard new razor problem
So I need one more advice from members here....the razor that I have receive yesterday Thiers Issard Historic Flying Tudor Rose, Snakewood have a problem. When I open razor the tang touch inner part of the scales (it not pass centered between scales) also when I close razor the blade do not stay in the center of the scales, also tip of the blade pass maybe 1 mm near the scale.
Anybody have the same problem, is the problem in pivot pin or is the shank maybe warped...I just can see that shank do not stay flat between scales, there is some angle and that angle cause the problem.
How can I solve the problem? I have to say that I buy razor new from vendor in USA and I am living miles from USA, so for me is big problem for return it back especially when I must pay taxes again when I receive new one from vendor.

Welcome to SRP. Do you mean that the 'monkey tail' hits the inside of the scales ? Does it look as if the pivot pin is drilled on an angle ? The only TI retailer in the USA that I know of will stand behind the product as long as you haven't shaved with it or worked on it.
As far as taxes on a replacement I thought that if the sender specifies that it is a replacement or a repair it would be duty free ? I guess that depends on your home country.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I think now there are more vendors in USA carrying TI, and I would contact the vendor. I also think a replacement should not incur new taxes. In fact if the razor was pre-honed and sold as shave-ready I would expect that a vendor who values themselves will also cover all shipping costs involved.

Thanked: 335Is anyone aware of what are allowable tolerances for this type of misfit? When the razor is taken out of its original packaging to be honed, these problems should be immediately recognized by the honer and reported to the seller. It then would seem incumbent upon the seller to return the razor to the jobber or manufacturer for refund or replacement. The defective razor shouldn't reach the buyer for his disapproval.
This "historic" razor may be the tail-end of the group of TI razors which were said to have significant quality control problems.
An email exchange with the vendor may be a good place to start with attempting to remedy the dissatisfaction.

Thanked: 31Exactly...monkey tail hits the scales. To me it seems that pivot pin is not drilled on an angle, I can see that shank is warped. We think of the same TI retailer, but I have one more problem...my house keeper throw original paper box in garbage....will it be problem if I return razor without that box...also I do not need new one from retailer I will be satisfied if they can assist factory to repair the problem on this razor because the razor was named as shave ready but it was not and i have to hone it to take shave...when I finish shave I see that something is wrong with razor.
Not to say that I am dissapointed of TI razor quality control...for 320 $ plus 100 $ taxes I expect excellent razor, not the razor I have to send back and wait untill new come or maybe not come because I don t have original box or because I hone it. Also vendor say that razor was additionaly hand honed by their honemeister....but it was not....I am not newbie in straight razor shave so i know is razor shave ready or not.Last edited by king1976; 09-15-2009 at 07:09 PM.

Check with the vendor and see what he says. A new razor with the monkey tail hitting the scales when opened is a poor advertisement.

Thiers-Issard new razor problem
Gentlemen,
I, too, had several problems with this same model razor. A tiny, almost microscopic, crack on one side on the scales extended from the butt pin to the tip. The spacing in the butt lacked precision. Also, the razor was not straight.
I returned it unused for an exchange and the vendor sent me a replacement. The pivot pins in the replacement are not as tight as they should be, causing a slight and silent click while closing the razor. I'll tolerate that, because this is too gorgeous a razor.
I think one of you gentlemen mentioned that some of these razors are prone to fitting problems.
Either way, I suggest sending it for a replacement, since this is a pricey razor.
Regards,
Obie
