    Yes, John M. Schmid & Son was at 259 Westminister St., Providence, Rhode Island.1871 - 1964.
    Trademark "Hope" was used by many companies.
    I should re-read my posting - I was not implying that J A Schmidt (notice that I did not omit the "t" even though I forgot the "m" in the first bit) were connected with J M Schmid - I would have thought (and hoped) that was obvious.

    To reiterate the obvious - the Hope cutlery tangs sometimes had J A Schmidt (notice the "t"!) on the tangs, not J M Schmid.

    I hope that clarifies things for you.
