    Razor: Average Thickness(mm) Length(mm) Angle

    Thistle Cut Co. 3.433 12.76 15.44
    Henckels 4.783 15.97 17.213
    Le Grelot 5.83 18.61 18.02
    Winchester 4.046 14.22 16.36
    Joe Chandler Damascus 7.366 17.23 24.68
    Robert Williams Custom 7.04 21.08 19.224
    Joe Chandler Custom 4.987 20.1 14.25

Angles are calculated with the original lengths carried out to more decimal places for increased accuracy.

    Interesting project!

EDIT: That 24.68 Degree for my Chandler razor was bothering me, but I checked it again & that's correct. It shaves well too. I don't know what to think about this

FWIW, I am at work yesterday, today and tomorrow and do work long hours. When I get to it I will measure a bunch of 6/8 razors since that is what the Hart is and it started all of this. I want to compare the vintage 6/8 to the Hart and see if it really is out of the 'correct' range of angle.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Thumbs up

And my favorite razor was shaving so swell until I squeezed the edge with the carbide face on my caliper. It was kinda fun: the harder I squeezed the smaller the number got. Who needs a breadknife when you have a caliper? I'll bet that mini C clamp that some call a micrometer would work even better.

    Vintage J.A. Henkels ................ 4mm x 11.5mm = 19.74 degrees

    Buddel Suminagashi Custom .... 5mm x 19mm = 15.00 degrees

    TI Le Canadien ........................ 5mm x 17mm = 16.74 degrees

    HART Steel (BG) ...................... 5mm x 19mm = 15.00 degrees

    Bill Ellis Hybrid ........................ 4.25mm x 16mm = 15.14 degrees

I hone all of these razors (except for the henkel and the TI where I use no tape) with one peice of tape that is 0.2mm thick. This increases the above values by 1.18 degrees.

See now I haven't laughed out loud in a long time over reading something. Bruce, thank you for that. I have a digital caliper and I thought something similar. There's no way that caliper is getting anywhere near any of my razors unless they're butterknife dull 35 degree+ Sheffield wedges.

I've got to say I reread Bruce's quote and I'm still laughing. Of course, I know Bruce so when I read it, in my mind I'm hearing him say it.
