Default Dovo Bismarck Shave Report And Thanks To Lynn

A week ago, I ordered a Dovo Bismarck from Don and Lynn at SRD. I had it by Wednesday (!) and decided to shave with it that evening. The razor was shave ready, and only needed a stropping on leather before shaving.

In short, the shave was less than spectacular. Comparing it to my other razors, it pulled and burned as though it was dull. Thinking I had a lemon, I called Lynn the next evening and explained the problem. Lynn explained the difference in the Dovo's blade and in my older Solingen blade. He also stressed angle. The Dovo is a 6/8, and needs 30 degrees, no more.

That evening, I stropped it with both linen and leather strops, and shaved. What a difference a day makes! Glass smooth and no pull or burn. I see what the fuss is about with Dovo, and thanks to Lynn for explaining what it needs to work properly.

I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

my Dovo was the same case, I had to run it on the CrO to get it in good shape.

I had the same experience with my Bismarck. At first, I didn't quite like it, but after a couple shaves and some stropping and a few laps over the CrOx it was rocking right along.

The fun thing is that our new razor will last at LEAST through our entire lifetimes
