Question How much hone wear is too much hone wear?

I'm new to straights, but reading and learning as much as possible. While browsing and searching through razors in antique shops I've wondered how much hone wear is too much hone wear to make it a good shaver (for proper honing)? Any good photo illustrations?

I've searched through the forums but could not find an answer, so please excuse the repetition if this is asked often.

    Thank you!

It is not so much a matter of how much as to how even the hone wear is...

Uneven hone wear is bad... Nice even hone wear, just so long as there is still plenty of life left in the blade, is also a sign the the razor was a good shaver and the previous owner was a good honer....

Personally for me anything that has over 1mm I am not going to invest money in, if it is a larger blade (7/8+) I might accept a touch more

Do you happen to have any pics that show acceptable and not acceptable hone wear according to that criteria? 1mm seems quite light, but it might be more noticeable than I am thinking?

+1 with Glen, As long as it's even, It's ok, and as long as it looks as if there's lots of life left in the blade. Check for pitting, especially near the edge. Also, Check the scales over, make sure there's no cracks, stuff like that.....
