    Default Wosty Medium Hollow Pipe

I picked up a razor at the antique show last weekend. It was covered in black oxide and even though it is shallowly etched because of it I there is no rust.

I think I can save it. Anyway. The front is lost, maybe. What intrigues me is that the etch on the front says that it is a "medium hollow".

    What is a medium hollow?

Does anyone have a pic of one of these? I looked in the wiki and could not find one.

I would guess it means 1/2 or 1/4 hollow rather than saying hollow ground and meaning full hollow.

    Just speculation though.

I am thinking half. Definitely not a 3/4 hollow.

1/2 it is then most likely. Which makes sense if you consider wedge large and full hollow small, then 1/2 hollow would be medium.

    Congrats on a unique find.

I have one that while not marked half hollow is probably close to yours.

I believe "medium" refers to the size of the blade as this one apparently does:

Thats a Wosty. It has a pipe on it.

Mine is stamped Wosty on the back, the pipe on the front of the tang and then engraved on the front of the blade.

If I only had a camera.

+1 on what Lee said. It's not the grind, it's the size. For the English, anything that is "hollow" seems to be about 1/4-3/4 hollow. Most that are marked as "Medium hollow" seem to be about 5/8, while many of the W&B "Hollow Ground" (w/ or w/o "Celebrated") seem to be more like 7/8.
