Thanked: 3Custom Japanese
Hi guys, wanted to share my new acquisition. It was made for me by Tslil (Alchemist), a true gentleman to deal with. I've had a couple of shaves with it; it is lighter than what I'm used to, but it is so sharp that there really is no effort in slicing hairs.
It being my first Japanese style razor, I was surprised at how easy it was from shave one to cover every spot on my beard doing just a right handed, one side of the blade shave. Thanks to JimR's video, I realized early that I really had to forget about a regular approach and just let the blade do it's thing. I think because the edge is only 50mm, this is accomplished easier than, say, with a razor edge of western proportions.
The sheath (saya), is bamboo to match the handle.
Anyhoo, here are the pictures taken by TC, the brush and bowl are his. Enjoy

So awesome! I really like the sheath that came with as well as wrapper. The bowl and brush give it that "rustic" look. Very nice

Thanked: 326When you get chance please post cross-section of your razor.
I checked the site but to no avail. I was really impressed with craftsmanship overall as well as information he provided in general.
Thanks

Thanked: 3It is indeed such a beautiful blade. I will post some more pictures of my own later on. That picture TC posted on the Japanese Razors Club thread is what prompted me to contact him about making another one .
This one here was hand forged by him out of O1 steel.
His website is full of information, as you see his family specializes in making Japanese traditional cutlery.

Thanked: 326I really liked the section on honing. Really stressed how you needed to properly lapped the stones and such. What confused me though was the fact he mentions kireba and cutting edge separately but as I recall kireba is the "cutting edge." Based on diagram one would assume it's the bevel but it is not.
