I don't think there are many vintage shavers that are sought after because they are any better shavers than other vintage razors. IMO, it's just like the DD frenzy. Sure Filly's and Ducks and the others will give a great shave, but so will many many many vintage razors.
For one reason or another, certain makes and/or models become popular at certain times, and prices go way up. I do think one contributing factor is what people say about razors right here on SRP. Notice that there were a few senior members who were saying great things about Filly's around the time prices went up...

well there good shavers and has been bragged a lot about here
alot op ppl want the ones thats left and it seems a lot of them goes to ppl that just got too much money for there own good
even tho i do have a certain feel for my filly it will never be worth more than the price of any great blade, and unless i going to get my own custom i dont think i will have a problem staying well below the prices these fetch now

Thought: In order to pull interest from the Filis... Let's start saying how great another brand is, even better than a Fili.
Ideas?

Thanked: 1903Interesting notion. Let's try that the other way around: Tacky scales, tasteless rubber stuff round the tang, effeminate coffins. And they're not even from Germany. USD 350 for that? You have to be joking. You can get 8/8 NOS Solingen razors for that sort of money. And I'm talking big brand names.
And while I'm at it: I think it requires a combination of a critical mass of razors available, and some really bad renews, cf. Straight Razors - Badger & Blade and Razor Reviews - Straight Razor Place Forums - the let the hype begin.
No, wait. Before you can let the hype really begin, you need to establish the fact that new razors are "POS'" [sic!].Last edited by BeBerlin; 11-12-2009 at 08:37 PM.
