Thanked: 953My filly doesn't destroy my friodur either - friodurs are also kick ass stiff, smooth razors.
What I find unique about my filly is it's really stiff and really hollow, and on my beard that gives me a really close and smooth shave - like I don't feel stubble till 10:30 PM. But does that really matter compaed to my razors where I don't feel stubble till 8:30 PM - of course not! I just love these razors.

Thanked: 522Filly opinion
I feel I must chime in here and say that my one Filly definitely shaves better than my three W&Bs. My barber, 75 years old from Venezuela, shaves with a Filly everyday.
Most of us would cringe if we would watch him strop a razor. He strops with about 5 inches of sag in the middle of the strop. I told him that he should keep the strop taught and he just laughs.
Does anyone approve of so much sag in the strop??

Robin, I agree--it IS a good idea to let people know that they don't have to spend a ton to get a good shave. Your recent post to that effect was excellent.
I don't mean you, but whenever anyone says "XXX is not worth the money," there is an implicit judgment--people who buy one are buying something that is not worth it. I see it a lot (for example, the recent Hart Steel thread...There was some pretty vehement "It's a waste of money" argument in there...).
As to the Friodur comparison, my EPBD shaves are a bit better than the Friodur, it's got a bit more flex that lets it get a bit closer...I think. I can never tell, to be honest, the difference between a fantastic shave and a REALLY fantastic shave. But that Fillie I have is a true keeper...

Looking at the sagging strop and answering Mrsell63, I think it creates more drag on the blade, hence a sharper edge. I wouldn't recommend that for a novice. Anyway, I've said this a million times. Some of my best shaves have come from $5.00 no name razors. I have 8 out in rotation now. Not one Fily. All good ole' German Steel. All Solingens, One Fritz Bract...If your good, I'll post pics so ya'll can drool. some Bismarcks, and a Henckels and a Livi...I think everyone needs to take a step back from the Fily Frenzy. I noticed not one person on this forum admitted to paying 300.00, even though that's what they cost. Maybe nobody who paid is willing to admit it. That's OK. Believe me, you dont' need to spend a fortune to get a good shave.
We have assumed control !

I think people should not be so dogmatic with ideas. I am a novice and am not afraid to screw up whether it be with my Dovo or my Filly. I prepare the blade to my own exacting standards, for my face - stropping and honing. Just my 2 cents.

Actually, I 'fessed up, several posts up in this thread. But to be explicit, I paid $356 shipped from Spain for this NOS EPBD. And you're absolutely right - since I was already getting good shaves before I bought it, I didn't need to spend a fortune just to get a good shave, either.
