I lol'ed
This thread is about an item for sale on an antiques website, not ebay, and I'm not promoting it's purchase, I just got a kick out of it and I wanted to share with everyone.
So I was cruising the internet looking for straight razors and I came across this gem. All I have to say is...
Read the description. I laughed. A LOT.

Ignorance, shear ignorance my fellow comrades. Morning torture! How razors have since evolved through the discovery of science and technology! Cartridge blades are far better suited and of course perform better than that primitive object that has no use in today's world!
Those cut throats are lethal, just look at them. Hideous things, imagine putting one on against your face! It would scar you for life surely, or even be fatal...why would anyone want one? Hmmm Ill value it at 54 dollars then.
The ironic thing is that the methods the seller conforms to for hair removal, be it cartridge razors or electric, would certainly be 'morning torture' for me I can assure you. Since I started Ive never looked back and do not miss the pulling and ripping of hairs from my face whatsoeverLast edited by Scipio; 11-18-2009 at 11:46 PM.

I couldn't agree with your more. I love the strop reference the most I think. A strip of leather is clearly a "gizmo".
Man, nothing turns on or plugs in or pops out or anything...

Thanked: 199I think the electric razor should be considered a torture device...I tried one once but gave it up cause it really did feel like it was just RIPPING the hair out of my face.

Yeah, I went to a military boarding prep school in Indiana where I live so I have had my fair shave of bad electric shaves. They rip hair out and leave you feeling very greasy, probably because there is no soap involved.

Yep! I tried one of those electric gadgets once. Ran it over my face and took a good look. What's this? Hair still there? Maybe push this button....Buzzzzz! Oh, what's that noise? Maybe it will work now. Ran over face again....Ouch! Ouch! Damn that hurt! Well, you sorry SOB! Shoot! They don't even fly very well when you throw them out the window................

Ah, yes, the electric razor. My favorite memory was taking one to basic training. I had shaved with it and then ran out for first formation. The Drill Seargent accused me of not shaving. I was handed a bic and forced to dry shave, repeatedly, for what felt to be an eternity... Never again.
