Metropol 7 day set
I recently acquired a 7 day set as a gift found at an antique fair by a family member. These are vintage, of which year I am unsure, although my guess is from around the 30s-50s. I hope a more knowledgeable member will correct me.
These came in a beautiful leather case, which looks to be crocodile.
On the tang is METROPOL SPECIAL, a brand which I am unfamiliar and can find virtually no information, other than a SOTD pic in google of a black handled equivalent.
Initially I was a little unsure of what to make of them until I found 'Germany' in faint lettering within a circle on the reverse of the tang.
I honed one up on a coticule and it was a super shave! One of the nicest hollows Ive used! And Im not even a big fan of hollows, but Im looking forward to my next shave with it.
Best thing about the set? It was completely unused. They had been factory sharpened and thats it, they all still had their original paper on them as can be seen on the 6/8 blades.
Anyway, I thought I'd share and hopefully find out some more about these blades. Shame about the scales. Im really not a fan of plastics! Maybe Ill have them all custom handled in horn. When I win the lottery.

Excellent find! I agree about the scales mind you It's better to have ordinary scales but great shaves than fancy scales but a rubbish shave I suppose.
They'll look great in horn.Very nice case.

I *think* and could be wrong, but I think they were made by Baurmann out of Solingen. If they were they will be excellent shavers.

Thanked: 0Sunday thru Saturday
This is my first post on this site and I am still learning to navigate thru it. I recently purchased a 7-day straight razor set at a flea market. They were new and had no markings whatsoever - however, the case seemed to be of very good quality and they appeared well made. I was disappointed at first because I did not see a stainless steel mark but then learned that "stainless" is not a good choice for a razor. The asking price was $100.00 but I negotiated down to 80. This seemed reasonable since I had occasion to search for straight razors recently at most antique and flea markets in Western North Carolina. It was unusual to find anything less than $100.00 and those seemed to be in very bad shape - mind you, I may have been looking a precious metal and not know it. My interest developed because I was pursuing my ambition to be a wood carver - a master carver loaned me a home made bench knife that he made from an old razor - the story went that you could buy them a dime a dozen, plastic handle type, for about two buck. Rams horns cost about ten dollars and made perfect hilts for them and I did find a inexpensive razor and made me a wonderful knife. Then the bug bit and I just had to learn to shave with a razor and bought the set mentioned above. None of the seven in the set are razor sharp like in a barber shop and I am sure that I will need a hone and strop. Can you or anyone tell me anything about a set of razors like I described? I hope my response helped you with an idea about pricing your set - I would imagine that being old and of quality that you would expect to pay several hundred dollars based on my Smoky Mountain antique experience.
