Damauscus razor
I went to an antique shop and found a razor with the name Damauscus printed on the tang but it just looked like normal carbon steel. Why do you think it was named Damauscus? Have you guys seen this before?

I have seen this a few times before on vintage razors. I believe it was done purely for marketing. Similarly some Joseph Rodgers and Wade and Butchers say 'Improved Silver Steel,' and some say 'Celebrated Fine India Steel.' There are many similar statements on razors which I think were all marketing tools.

I have three of the same brand that say Damascus. I've discussed this with a fellow member and we both have come to conclusion it was a marketing tool. On the other hand, the metal feels harder, stronger than most other blades I have. They also are harder to hone, do take a wicked edge and stay sharp for a long time before needing touched up. IMHO even though it may be a marketing tool they are very nice shaving, high quality blades.
BTW, these are also some extremely scarce razors, very hard to find any info on and very little info at that and I've only seen 1 seven day set, 1 six day set and 7 others by themselves in 1 1/2 - 2 years.
These three will be handed down to my grandson.Last edited by DoughBoy68; 01-11-2010 at 09:57 PM.

It's amusing how bladesmiths were able to get away back then with falsely advertising their products.
