Huh... what are the scales like on these? because at that price it is way cheaper to buy one of these, toss out the blade, and use the scales on a better razor...

won't work, the pivot is drilled out much larger than 1/16

Yeah, they're all pinned by a machine with 1/8 inch pressure-welded brass rivets. I had to work on one for a guy who was using it for a lecture on how straights were used as weapons (and why they aren't good ones) and it was a hell of a time trying to un-pin it.

AND the scales were 1/4" thick. Cheap and gross.

But as practice blades the price is right.
    Practice stropping and honing...
Could be better than a butter knife
as it has the same "handle".

Folk are always looking for a clunker....

I suspect they are some nasty stainless
but when very dull would make a good practice
razor to not nick up a good strop.

No, they're horribly thick and balanced about as well as Congress. Not good for anything. Really.

Straights as weapons? Do you mean people currently use them for that, or are we talking about the 1800's?

Nobody with any sense ever used a straight razor as a weapon. Fixed blades and locking blades make a hell of a lot more sense for weapons.

True... But the last time I checked blade wielding maniacs don't really conform to the ideal of common sense.
In any case, I am now curious about the content of that lecture. And was the horrible 2 dollar razor the only prop, or was it there for comparison purposes to a better one?

    BKratchmer.
I am glad you told us that. I was going to buy some to use the scales. Glad I didn't.
