Kukri Magnetic Diamond Steel? WTH?
Welcome, Sirs and Madams,
Has anybody heard anything of something like this on the picture? The steel looks a little cheap, but maybe it is just an angle?
regards,
Matt

I don't know anything about it but a search on these forums suggests that someone will be along in a minute judging by the regularity with which the name occurs in SOTD threads. Looks like you've got a goody there, those German blades generally are.

Yeah, I saw it, although that SOTD Kukri looks far different than this one... I figured that maybe someone has had some experience and could tell if it's good, too, or maybe some chinese cr@p, I don't know...

Is it truly magnetic? That would be a strange thing to fake. Equally, why fake a little known razor? I don't know either, though. Hone it up would be what I'd do.

I don't know a single reason for a blade to be magnetic, I rather thought it to be merely a name. And yes, I'd hone it, too, it's just I haven't bought it yet.
I'm wondering if the one in question is just a cheap rip-off of such a treat, or just an economic version

What a beauty. I've got a couple or so of blades that are magnetized, though none that state so on the blade. It seems to have been a marketing gimmick at some point though opinions (naturally) differ.

Actually with vintage blades it was a pretty common thing. Off hand I can think of the Carbo-magnetic Brand. However they are others. Advantages? I don't know. Maybe it is attracted to the iron in your hemoglobin and causes the razor to adhere to your face giving a better shave. That sounds pretty good eh?

Thanked: 155Interesting that they take their name (Kukri) from a traditional Gurkha knife.

I've had a couple of these pass through, both were excellent, neither was magnetised. On the other hand, I've also seen the 'Carbo-Magnetic' and they weren't magnetised either. Then I've seen a couple of ordinary-looking that were. I don't think the blades were purposely magnetised at all - it's just a marketing ploy like 'Manganese steel' and 'Diamond steel' - just guff.
Damned cool name for a razor though!

Thanked: 190I have a great NOS Dovo that is also Diamond Steel which was made in the 70's and sold new recently. Nice trade mark name for this type of steel. My Diamond Steel razor is certainly harder than my Swedish Steel straight razor.
I guess the Magnetic feature didn't catch on. No pun intended.
