Thanked: 6Notta Gotta. Or is it?
I bought this the other day and wonder if any of you can help.
It's quite obvious that the pivot pin has been replaced. The question is though; does the blade go with the scales? Somehow I don't think so. Can anyone shed some light on who "Fr. Wellmann" Altona is?
Cheers
Scott

I'm gonna say I think it's not a Gotta, but what's on the back of the tang?

I have a Gotta razor with those exact scales, and I can say definitely that your blade is not what comes with those scales. Looks like a nice blade, though!

Thanked: 3164I think Grah & Plumacher made the Gotta razor, among others. Solingen-Weyer, not Altona.
Fr. Wellmann displayed cutlery in the International Exhibition of 1876.

Could Altona just be the location of the cutlers, not the place of manufacture? Is Altona another place of German blade manufacture (I've never heard so, but wait to be disabused of the idea). These are just thoughts. Whatever, it looks like a good blade and a great find, even if it's not a Gotta.

Scott,
Definitely not...The scales are Gotta, but the blade is not.
The Gotta that I purchased from Max has Gotta on the scales, the shank and the blade.Last edited by jhenry; 02-27-2010 at 10:14 PM.
