Thanked: 335On matters of size...
My current favorites are a couple of 7/8 Friodurs. The size just works well; I've been gradually graduating up from my start at 5/8. Why move up? I can't really say. What's the difference? Dunno know about that either. Other than when I try a razor from the 6/8 pool now it feels small and the 5/8 now feels nearly miniscule. Do the rotation members and those which happen to be out of the spin cycle shave well? Yes they do, it's just that now my fingers and face seem to be used to the 7/8 size.
And the Friodurs really seem to like being whipped on linen and leather. What can I say? Their M seems to dovetail so well with my S. It's a marriage made in the shavatorium.

Thanked: 1903This world is coming to an end. I am agreeing with Bruce. That cannot be good.
Anyhow, I will submit reviews of two Henckels 7/8s shortly, and they will be most favourable.

My current favourite is a Clauss extra Barber's special that's stamped Toronto Ont. Its my fav because
a) I found it at a local Antique store for $15.00
b) I managed to hone it myself to where it shaves me comfortably
c) I managed to do a custom scale job on it (one of my first) that I am pretty satisfied with (for $4 worth of acrylic acetate)
d) Although it was probably made in the USA, it's stamped Toronto, Ont, which adds a patriotic element to it for me (Canadian, eh?) as there aren't that many Canadian Straights
e) I think its probably pre world war one vintage, which appeals as its somewhere around 100 years old, made by hand, by a skilled craftsman, and it still works better than any modern high tech gizmo!

I have 4/8, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8 and I can tell you without a doubt that I'm not fond of the 4/8 or the 7/8. On the 5/8 and 6/8 it makes no difference to me, I like them both

I had a very nice shave this morning with a little Kabeso 5/8, I believe. This was one Max did with his Jade Ghost G10 material, Quite a beauty. I also like to use a Joseph Rogers & Sons 11/16 wedge. This particular razor is vintage with the lead toe and has a massive shank.
But overall, I would have to say my best shave comes from my Iwasaki kamisori. I like the way that little stick maneuvers around and it is fun to use. As far a shave quality and ease of refreshing on a hone, my Iwasaki is A++++. At some point I'll bum a digital camera off somebody and take some pics. That's my 2 cent's.
Have a nice day..

Thanked: 6My favorite straight
I bought this 5/8 "Our Shield" German razor, seller stated Damascus steel, who knows, pearl covered tang, whiskers run and hide in its presence...my rotation is 10 deep and I love them all...2 fillys, puma, rugra, wilbert damascus,TI Spartacus,Dovo Bismark,Step Solingen (a real looker), Boker Edelweiss...I have tried to narrow it down to 7 or 8 but I seem to keep adding and don't want to retire anyone...I am definately over the salary cap!!
