Everyone knows the magnetic force attracts the hemoglobin in the blood which makes the hairs plump more making it easier to shave.

As a matter of fact if you put magnets around your head the additional blood flow to the brain will make you much smarter. If you've ever had an MRI you know how much smarter you feel right after the test.

Exactly! Just like putting a gram of silver in the original "silver steel" was to differentiate a product from all the other comodity razors.

Magnetic razors predate steel coated with diamond (DMT)
but I noted that a magnetic razor pulls itself to the DMT hone
a little bit more than just the weight of the razor. I also note
that the swarf is attracted to the razor.

So ignoring historic marketing a magnetic razor on a 8K DMT might
    feel very good indeed.

I also saw several old sources touting the benefits of having a magnetized razor. The one that stands out in my memory was edge retention - it stayed sharp longer between honings. I would say it was a clever marketing ploy. This based on my experience with the bunch I have.
I wouldn't include silver, or other alloy producing metals, in with the magnet marketing. These actually produced a better appearence, rust resistance, or a harder steel.

Are there any blades out there that are marked 'Magnetic' etc, but actually aren't? The two that I have are not marked. For what it's worth, I think it's a marketing ploy, too. (Kudos, as ever, to, bigspendur's idea though.)

Well, it is a little known fact that magnetic razors only work properly with magnetic strops. Magnetic strops are hard to find nowadays, and many of the ones you do find have the polarity reversed and are thus useless.

    Thumbs up

HAD & RAD & SAD all seem to be magnetic. They are certainly sticking to me.

    Cool Magnetized??? Why?

    Hi Tony,
Remember a few years ago, the food industry was advertising everything in the grocery store as "Low Fat" = "good for your health?" People haven't changed. You give them a buzz word to make them feel good about themselves and something else and they'll buy your product.

In the 1700s and 1800s the buzz word was "smoking tobacco is a healthy tonic and promotes longevity." (We didn't find out that wasn't true until 40 or 50 years ago.)

People don't change. Buzz words will always be with us.
    Namaste,
    Morty -_-

Old thread but magnets play a big part in razor manufacturing.
It is only natural for marketing to pick up on it.

High quality magnetic sand and iron ores make the best steel.

In heat treating there is a point where the steel transitions and
is no longer magnetic. This transition is an important marker in the
    hardening process.

Good razor steel is easy to magnetize.

A magnetic razor picks up some of its own swarf and
    keeps a hone cleaner.

    Magnetic razors attract.....

    Thus the atraction.
