French and square points have certain practical similarities, but I prefer french becouse it looks better to me. The only misadvantage with them is that you can cut yourself if you don't really concentrate on what you're doing. On my french point razor the point angle was actually less than 90 degrees and it was extremely sharp.

I solved the problem by rounding the point slightly. So little that it didn't really affect on the razor's looks or functionality. It did, however, become significantly safer.

A lot of old time barbers would mute the very point. I've been tempted on some of mine but can't bring myself to do it. Instead I'm careful but every once in awhile I pay the piper.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I like 'em all! Its a looks thing for me, I can get just as good a shave from any style of point and, as long as its a good make and in good condition, all it really comes down to is the visuals. I've got round points, square points, Spanish points and a Dreadnought point and I love all of them.

I don't get the stigma against the round point... It looks more boring, but I've never disliked it... I just want something other than a round because, of my 4 razors, ALL of them are round (although the TI was a little reground, so it's almost irish)

I just want variation, but I honestly don't have much preference...

Are we talking about function or aesthetic or both?

Function: I can do anything I need to with a round point. I don't sport facial hair, but trimming my 'burns is plenty easy. Plus, for a beginner or a quick shave, the round point is probably easier to use.

Form: French points are really nice looking, and so are Spanish points. But really, there are plenty of square/spike pointed blades that are cool looking, too. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that...

As a combo of the two, I'd say a muted square point is really easy to use, probably won't jab you and can still look cool. Plus, there a bunch of sweet shavers that are readily available like this.
