Default Brand New Dovo getting stained for no reason

I just got my Dovo Best and have used it maybe three times, cleaning it thoroughly after use; however, every time I take it out of the black plastic DOVO case I see a wierd almost shadowy stain that won't come off with water and scrubbing. I also se little lines of black near the spine. Anyone know what's the cause of this and how if at all I can clean it. Thanks

The lines near the spine sounds to me like water stains due to wet scales. I would guess that something (blade, scales, or both) is not being thoroughly dried before you put the razor away.

I agree. MAAS may not work but get at it quick. This happened with me and a few of the razors I started with - among them a great one from Sham in fact. I live in a particularly humid country and wasn't drying between the scales correctly, hence the lines near the spine. Best is to dry it as thrououghly as you can, leave the razor open for a while and then 30 hour later or so oil it. hope this helps.

Any moisture on a razor trapped inside a plastic case will only intensify the rust process.
Try some metal polish on the stains & as Holli said make sure razor is thoroughly dry before storage.

I would not store it in the plastic case until it is completely dry. Black stains are usually caused by shave soap or cream on the blade. You may have some in the scales when you close the razor. Be sure the blade is dry and also the scales especially the insides. Another tip to prevent rusting is do not touch the metal after you wipe down the blade. I leave mine open and on something that will not hold moisture for an hr or more. If you have little kids running around be sure it is out of reach. I don't have any little ones running around so I keep mine open over night cause I shave in the evening.

    Good luck.

Could some of the black dye from the plastic case be transferring to the blade?

    Default dovo

I just got one of these today myself (From SRD),, it gave a great shave.

I always run my razors under pure hot water after use. i lay them open on the box for a few hours before placing them back in the box.. I'll post if i see the lines you describe..

    be well,,

    Case no. Strop perhaps....
I have see -- new or excessively oiled strops leave 'gunk' near the spine.
It does come off with sturdy tissue -- not that floppy girlie kind ;-).

As others said, most likely it is water related. Polish with dry sturdy tissue
and lightly oil. If that does not get it -- a light application of MAAS or simulcrome
    should get it.

I used to have a simmilar problem with one of my first Dovos. It had slight discoloration and light scratch marks from my poor first honing attempt, as well as what appeared to be thin black smears on it. A few rounds with a paper towel and some MAAS cleared it all right up. I now have a dedicated rag for wiping down my blades, and some canola oil for a nice finish. Look it up online if you have any issues finding MAAS in any local store. Like everyone's saying, try to make sure the scales on the INSIDE are dry before closing the blade. I do not leave my blades open, so I always "floss" the scales a bit and then blow on it slightly to get any last drops to show.

Just remember! No razor will ever remain perfect forever. It's all about the experiences and the fun of shaving that you can share with your straight which makes it truly valuable.
