    Me? No way.
You're not too far off the mark...I posted this thread also at B&B (sorry, just to see what happens...hope I won't get kicked off for it) and it seems like very few are willing to try (hesitantly of course and mostly if it's was free)...For the majority, it seems like it's an insult the their whole idea of "being" or "who they are"...

I love the responses so far...they are very telling.

I dont think its an insult, but is definitely going backwards, imo. Once we've had the filet mignon its hard to pay the same price for a chuck steak. Both will do the job of filling us up, but one is a far more satisfying and rewarding way to get there.

For me, there is no way I would try one, since I would rather grow a beard than go back to the shave quality I escaped, when I found SRP, was introduced to straights and taught how to use them by all the fine people here, thanks.

The only use I would have for this redesigned Mach 5 is for travel. I don't trust the thugs at the TSA with my baggage and I would hate to lose a good straight to them.

Sooner or later I will get off my duff and buy a DE for my travel razor. That I wouldn't mind losing. My straights? HANDS OFF!!!

8 cartridges for $32. $4/shave? I've never been able to use a disposable more than once because my beard is too tough and it immediately dulls those girly sissy blades. If I shave every day for a month that's $120. I could get a darn good straight once a month for that price and pass that massive collection on to my children. Once a year that would get me a high end Livi.

My prediction: same lousy shave as the last 6 or 7 "improvements". My 5 o'clock shadow may show up 15 minutes later than my old Mach 3. At 10:00 AM, mind you.

Might be a good time to buy Gillette stock. There's a sucker born every minute!

    Great thread!

Thumbs down Will you try this? - why or why not??

before I started shaving there were only two options that I can remember being available to the average person: the Gillette double edge and and a single edge (can't remember the brand) that used the same blades you buy for paint scrapers. (My older brother used one of those.)

Starting in the mid-to-late 1960s, there was a "major breakthrough" in shaving being advertised at least every six months. A "closer, more comfortable shave" than anything else was always promised. by 1980 it occurred to me that were all of these "breakthroughs" legitimate improvements, we should be shaving off our beards 1/2" below the surface of the skin without any irritation.

When Gillette advertised their soon-to-be-released Mach 3 razor, I decided to swallow my skepticism and give it a try. While the shave did seem more comfortable than the Track II I used, the floppy head was a great disappointment. I tried to stay with it but I found I hate the floppy head. I tossed it and went back to using my Track II and eventually upgraded to a Gillette Sensor.

The parade of miraculous "advancements" in shaving continued to march on. Gillette actually mailed me a *free* Fusion razor with extra blades. Floppy head. That's a deal breaker for me. Didn't need to try it. Out it went.

The new ProGlide? Floppy head. 'nuff said. I won't be trying this one. Not even if they send me a free one. In my opinion, the three blade cartridge that Gillette finally made for the Sensor razor is far superior to the Mach 3 and beyond simply because it does not have a floppy head.
    Namaste,
    Morty -_-
