Elementary my dear Zombie ..... actually I don't know the lovely thing was already tempered to the point where it was easier to run some plating ? I can't imagine why they didn't just toss it unless it is a case of waste not want not. Another possibility is that it was a lunch box piece that a worker, maybe an apprentice, made for his own use ? Unless the fellow John got it from bought it from a vendor.

Thanked: 530My money (Read as: Best Guess) still says that the seam is very slightly off center, so that the edge of the blade is still one piece of metal and, as such, shaves as well as a normal blank would... then, to hide the seam, they just plated over the area where it was visible (half of one side of the front/point, and all of the spine)... That way the edge isn't really in any danger, and their mistake isn't visible...
Does that make any sense?

Dunno, I thought that any imperfection would show through plating if it wasn't polished out. I went back to the OP and took another look at the pix and it almost looks like a crack but it sure is a straight line. If it wasn't for the mention of plating I would think it was just a mark left in the blank and poor QC.

And plating is not something you can do on one piece... it is a complicated, messy process.

Thanked: 4942WOW!!
I had always thought that only Wacker Razors did this???? hahahahahahaha..........
More pics would be in order to ID the entire scale and razor. Usually Dovo Specials when new are in imitation tortoise scales. It would also be worthwhile to send to Dovo for an evaluation. If all of their razors are drop forged as it looks like they are from the Video, I would be at a loss here unless that is a crack all the way through the middle from heat treat. Tis very strange. Plating?? Never saw anything like that either.
Have fun,

Can't it simply be a remnant of the punching process ?
From DOVO's video on You Tube.
They first stamp a shape approximation from a flat bar, then stamp this to a close approximation of the blade but this leaves a thin sheet of surplus material around the blade (photo), then the blade is punched out. Maybe this leaves as seam that has to be polished off. Which was not adequately done on our mystery razor.

No! He is just digging at me because I don't sell Dovo razors. It was actually uncalled for since it bogusly casts a cloud over Wacker razors. It is retaliation for posting something I thought would be of interest.
This Dovo Special was sent to me buy a customer to see for myself since I didn't really believe him when he told me about it. The razor has been sent back to him.
