Which filamonica ?
I read with frequency how well these razors are liked and as much as personal choice is subjective is there one that generally stands out as the one to get ? I noticed on ebay a Barbas Duras 14 Blue which looks absolutely stunning but going very pricey and several guys have mentioned the Doble temple . As i say i know its subjective, but any views ?

Thanked: 1903It is subjective. Given that they are everything but rare, I would invest that sort of money in something useful. Like 7 Friodurs or a custom razor.

It's probably best you read what you can to learn about how they behave during shaving and pick the one that appeals to you more. If you don't know which, I would highly recommend you try more razors to figure out your tastes before investing that much into a single razor.

I have an 8/8 Barbas Duras. It wasn't NOS & I got it at a good price. It's a great razor, it really is, but it's not worth the price that the blade you've mentioned will fetch.
These are just the current must have. Their price will fall when the next one takes their place.
You could have a custom made with the right maker for the same money. It'd be basic, but then how basic are rubbish plastic scales?

Both are very good shavers. What size blade do you prefer? I believe the #14 blades are 15/16ths and the #13 13/16ths.
For whatever reason I get along just fine with a 13/16ths blade, but don't enjoy sizes over that near as much.
While there are #13 ESBDs, they seem uncommon. Perhaps they have not come out of the storage closet yet, but you just don't see them much. I own one, so I count myself fortunate. #13 Doble Temple razors are seemingly in endless supply.
What I'm suggesting is that blade width preference may influence any decision. I don't really notice much difference between the two shave-wise, but I don't recall that I've used them one following the other either.

Thanked: 1263I have a #14 EPBD just like the one you've mentioned...absolutely love it!!
I was lucky enough to get mine just before the prices seemed to go ridonculous though It all comes down to personal preference though..I have smaller blades that shave just about as well but theres something about that huge piece of steel that draws me back to it.

Thanked: 2591I have tried both #13 and #14 DT I liked them both equally as far as shave quality. For size I prefer the #13.

I have a total of 8 of them now, and I truly like them all.
DT 13 and 14, EPBD 13 and 14.
My absolute favourite amongst them are the 2 first one's I bought. A DT 13 and a EPBD 14. I would, in a heartbeat, give up my Zowada, my Mastro Livi or any of the the other fine razors I have, before I would separate from those 2.
I also have both Ducal's and a Palmera #14 that is more or less equally good. They come a bit cheaper too.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 8I too have the Barbas Duras 14 and a 13 DT, they both shave equally well so for your money you are probably better with the latter as they go for considerably less. I got both of mine for reasonable prices before the craze and despite how much I love the 14 I would never pay what they are currently going for. The 13 is probably a better all rounder anyway, IMO.
