Thanked: 1feasability of DLC Straight Razor?
For those who don't know: DLC = Diamond-like Carbon
Amorphous diamond coating of blades - Patent 5799549
Diamond-like carbon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Has there ever been an attempt to make a straight razor using this technology?
I'm not too good in materials science, but it seems that honing and stropping would both work differently (stropping may not even do anything) but once a blade is shave ready, it'd remain so for years.

yea but it's a coating and number one you'd have to send it back to the factory for honing and if you laid it down to the very edge I don't think it would be a very good shaving medium. It's used mostly for watch cases to protect against scratches but if dropped it's a very thin coating and can crack through.
