Hey Guys. Some how someone posted a link that others quoted and stated that it linked to a porn site. The post with the original link and those that quoted the link have been moved off the thread for Mod review. I can not review the link at my present location.
Please, if you see something that doesn't belong on SRP please report it and don't quote it. If you quote it we will need to remove your posts also.
If the Mod team finds the link is fine the posts will be returned to this thread.
Thanks for your understanding.“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

Thanked: 2259I'll be perfectly honest here, and I hope it doesn't rub some folks fur the wrong way...
First, up front, I don't want to commit the resources to what a custom would cost.
Second, and more important, for me to buy a custom, I'd need to know alot about the craftsman, and all the details, quite specifically of how the razor was crafted.
I spent my career as a Tool & Die Maker. I know full well that some folks may be well equipped and properly up to the task, and that there are also those that are probably less so.
I'd prefer a forging over bar stock, and the closer to final shape that forging comes out the better. I'd also like to know the alloys, heat treatment and all the finishing tools and methods.
It's true that I don't know all these details about the big names, but they have been in the business long enough, and obviously made sufficient investment in equipment and personnel to make a business work successfully over the long haul.
This is not a knock on any custom razor producers. Their product may well be superior, but it's something I don't know.
Third, I'm a simple man with simple tastes. I enjoy looking at the fancy eye candy pictured here, but some are just too highly embellished for my tastes. I subscribe to the old engineering axiom... Less is more... Beauty is as beauty does.
So, with all due respect to the custom razor makers... You're work is stunning, but it's just not my style.

I'd see if Butch had any of his blanks left. They're well within that budget. You could have whatever you wanted that way. Grind, size, point, the lot!
I have one & can confirm that the quality of workmanship is very high, yet they're an absolute steal! Scaling it is up to you though, but you should be able to have someone do it & still be easily in budget.Last edited by ben.mid; 06-29-2010 at 08:44 PM.
